It’s been a while since our last Auckland hike and we are slowly running out of tracks to explore. Our latest little mission took us to the Lake Wainamu Loop Track, off Bethells Road in West Auckland.
Locating the start of the track proved to be more difficult than anticipated as we walked along a stream and over giant sand dunes to get to Lake Wainamu. We followed what appears to be the start of our track but ended up by the gate to a private property. Luckily, one of the guys managed to eventually spot the sign and we began our walk.
It was a short walk (about 1.5 hours) but was a good way for us to gradually get back into hiking after a hot summer. In the middle of the loop, the boys took a quick dip in a small swimming hole, jumped off the waterfall and was rewarded with freezing cold water! As the weather was gloomy that day, there was hardly anyone on the track. But I’ve been told it gets popular in summer where you can enjoy some sand surfing on the dunes.
