Weekend Recap. #1. The Start of Many

5 – 6 April 2014

One of the most typical activities for kiwis during summer would have to be hiring a bach and spending a weekend away from the busy city life. Last weekend, my friends and I decided to make the most of our last weekend before day light saving, and we ventured to Mangawhai Heads for some much needed rest.

Granted, it was only a short 1.5hour drive from Auckland CBD, the cool vibe from Mangawhai is quite different from the busy city life. Our bach, which we booked via bookabach.com, was right outside the estuary and was literally, a stone throw away! It was well equipped with a BBQ, kayaks and sun loungers, so we spent Saturday and Sunday soaking up the sun and burnt some calories by kayaking to the sand dunes.

We also celebrated my friend’s 27th birthday at Mangawhai with my favourite sweet treat, Whoopie Pies!  They were not the most ideal item to stick giant candles onto, but we managed to keep them up with spoons and prevented buring the house down!

How did you spend your weekend?
