during our recent trip to cairns, my partner and I (along with two new friends) decided to hire a car in order to explore further without having to rely on public transport. although our main focus for the day was hartley’s crocodile farm, our spontaneous travel took us to mossman gorge, eighty kilometers from cairns, and was our highlight for the day.
the gorge is in the southern part of the daintree national park. the drive to the rainforest was straight forward and easy although the small section of road leading to the car park can be dangerous as we saw a car stuck in the curb. there is ample space in the carpark and the leisure walk is shaded and uncomplicated.
the reason why my friends and i enjoyed this location is because of the gorge itself. the freshwater valley/stream provided a refreshing swimming spot where we took a dip and cooled off. this was much needed as the walk around the rainforest had us sweating like mad. the water was nice and clear and we spent about half an hour just relaxing in the water and sitting by the rocks.
this short day trip was a great way to end our trip in cairns!
